Rajasthan went head-on with Mumbai in the 44th match of the Indian T20 League 2022. Winning the toss, Rohit Sharma opted to bowl first. Rajasthan did not have the best start as they lost Devdutt Padikkal (15) in the 5th over at a team score of 26 to Hrithik Shokeen. Jos Buttler, on the other hand, was also struggling to hit big. Rajasthan could only manage 60 runs in the powerplay.
Sanju Samson (16) and Daryl Mitchell (17) too departed without making much of an impact as Rajasthan was reduced to 91 -3 in 14.1 overs. Buttler, who had not struck a six in the game by then, exploded in the 16th over. He hit four sixes in the first four balls and completed his half-century. However, Shokeen dismissed him on the last ball of the same over. The men in pink were 126 for four in 16 overs.
Ravichandran Ashwin played a small cameo of 21 runs in nine balls to take them to a total of 158/6. Shokeen and Riley Meridith each grabbed two wickets, while Daniel Sams and Kumar Kartikeya both took one. In the next innings, Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan got off to another disappointing start, as both fell within the powerplay. Sharma (two) was out in the third over by Ashwin, while Kishan (26) was out in the sixth over by Trent Boult, leaving Mumbai in a spot of bother 41-2 in 6th over
Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, however, added 81 runs for the third wicket to take Mumbai close. Yadav (51) and Varma (35) were out in quick succession as Mumbai were reduced to 122-4, needing another 39 runs to win in 27 balls.
Kieran Pollard and Tim David took calculated chances and brought the equation to 12 in two overs, which was easily achieved despite losing Pollard on the first ball of last over. Mumbai won the match by five wickets to register their first win of the season.
