The 45th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 saw Delhi take on Lucknow at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Sunday. KL Rahul won the toss and decided to bat first in the day game. He, along with Quinton de Kock (23), gave the team a quick start, but the latter did not last long. He was dismissed by Shardul Thakur at a score of 42 in the fifth over. Deepak Hooda then joined KL Rahul in the middle and displayed a brilliant show.
The two partnered up and added 95 runs for the second wicket. Both of them got to their respective half-centuries. Thakur eventually got rid of both well-set batters. Hooda (52 runs off 34 balls) was dismissed in the 15th over, while Rahul (77 runs off 55 balls) was sent back in the 19th. Marcus Stoinis (17) and Krunal Pandya (nine) stayed unbeaten and took the team to a 195-run total in the first innings.
Prithvi Shaw and David Warner could not get the best of starts for Delhi in the big chase. Both were removed early in their innings as Delhi were reduced to 13 for 2 in 3 overs. Mitchell Marsh and Rishabh Pant then joined hands and counter-attacked. The duo wreaked havoc with the bat and added 60 runs in only 25 balls. Marsh (37), unfortunately, got out in the ninth over. Replays, though, showed that the ball did not take the edge before landing in the keeper's gloves, but the umpire declared him out, and Marsh did not review it.
Pant and Powell then added a short partnership of 34 runs before the former (44) was dismissed by a brilliant yorker from Mohsin Khan in the 13th over. Powell (35) struck some beautiful shots in the innings, but he, too, was unable to stay for too long. He was dismissed by Khan in the 17th over and the equation came down to 50 runs needed in 23 balls. Delhi weren't willing to give up as Axar Patel (42) and Kuldeep Yadav (16) kept the hopes alive for Delhi. The duo hit some heart-warming shots and took the team to as close to the total as possible.
Unfortunately, the two could not complete the game for Delhi. Lucknow won the match in the end by six runs. For Lucknow, Mohsin Khan took a four-wicket haul, while Dushmantha Chameera, Krishnappa Gowtham, and Ravi Bishnoi took a wicket each.
