The 51st match of the Indian T20 League is scheduled to be played between Gujarat and Mumbai at Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai on Friday. The two teams have had contrasting fortunes in the tournament this season.
Gujarat are comfortably sitting at the number one position on the points table. They have managed to win 8 matches out of 10 but are coming off a defeat in their last game. On the other hand, Mumbai are languishing at the bottom of the table with a solitary win in 9 matches. They registered their first win in the last game and would look to continue the winning momentum.
Gujarat suffered their second defeat of the season in their last game. Punjab comfortably beat them by 8 wickets. Batting first, Gujarat could manage to score 143 runs in the first innings, thanks to a brilliant knock from Sai Sudharsan.
Heading into the next game, Gujarat would want Gill and Saha to provide a solid start at the top of the order and expect the likes of Pandya, Miller, and Tewatia to continue their good form. The bowling unit too had a forgettable day. It will be interesting to see if they make any changes in their bowling department.
- Hardik Pandya
Hardik Pandya has shown great form with the bat this season. He had poor outings with the bat in the last two games and would be keen to bounce back strongly. He is currently the team’s highest run-getter, having managed to score 309 runs in 9 matches at an average of 44.14.
- Sai Sudharsan
The Gujarat batter played a top knock of 65 runs in 50 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. His knock helped the team reach a reasonable score on the board. He would be brimming with confidence and would be keen to replicate a similar knock on Friday.
- David Miller
David Miller had a poor outing with the bat in the last game but, overall, has been in pretty good form. He is currently the second-highest run-getter for the side, amassing 287 runs in 10 matches at a strike rate of 145.
Probable Playing XI:
Wriddhiman Saha (wk), Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan, Hardik Pandya (c), David Miller, Rahul Tewatia, Rashid Khan, Alzarri Joseph, Pradeep Sangwan, Lockie Ferguson, Mohammed Shami
Mumbai finally registered their first win in their last game. Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma, once again, starred with the ball. However, the likes of Rohit Sharma, Ishan Kishan, and Kieron Pollard also need to take some responsibility on their shoulders and overcome their poor form. With the ball, Daniel Sams and Riley Meredith did a pretty good job and this is a good sign for the team.
Players to watch out for:
- Suryakumar Yadav
Mumbai hasn’t had a great season this year but Suryakumar Yadav has consistently scored runs for the team. He has been in top form and, currently, has 290 runs to his name in 7 matches at an average of 48.33.
- Tilak Varma
Tilak Varma has been a find for Mumbai in the ongoing edition of the Indian T20 League. He has shown great temperament and batted with a lot of responsibility. He currently is the highest run-getter for the team this season. In 9 matches, Varma has 307 runs at an average of 43.86.
- Ishan Kishan
Ishan Kishan played with intent in the last game. He came out with an attacking approach and scored 26 runs in 18 balls, including 4 fours and 1 six. He should be in good spirits and you might see a big knock from his willow on Friday.
