Rajasthan beat Punjab by six wickets in the 52nd match of the Indian T20 League 2022. In his comeback to the playing XI, Yashasvi Jaiswal laid the groundwork for the 190-run chase. Shimron Hetmyer then scored a quickfire 31 off 16 balls and thus, sealed the victory for the Rajasthan team.
In the day game at the Wankhede Stadium Punjab decided to bat first after winning the toss. Despite losing a wicket early on, Punjab got off to a good start. Jonny Bairstow was playing sensible shots and taking calculative risks. He then had to take charge of the innings. The Englishman got some support from others in the middle overs, but wasn't enough. Bhanuka Rajapaksa (27) and Mayank Agarwal (15) were dismissed for a team score of 113 in 14.2 overs.
Bairstow (56) scored his half-century and set up the innings for the finishers. He was dismissed in the 15th over of the game by Yuzvendra Chahal. Jitesh Sharma (38) and Liam Livingstone (22) played impressive cameos to help the team get to a good total in the first innings. However, Livingstone wasted his wicket in a weird manner. After Livingstone took his guard outside the off stump, Prasidh Krishna struck him with a magnificent yorker coming round the wicket. In the innings, Yuzvendra Chahal took three wickets. Punjab went on to score 189 runs in the first innings.
Rajasthan then got off to a flying start with Jos Buttler and Yashasvi Jaiswal in the chase. They wasted no time in seeking the high total. Buttler (30), however, fell early in the fourth over while attempting an unorthodox stroke against Kagiso Rabada. On the other hand, Jaiswal kept the runs coming for the men in pink and blue. He was scoring runs at a quick rate.
Jaiswal scored 68 runs in 41 before losing his wicket to Arshdeep Singh in the 15th over. He did the job well, and set the perfect platform for Shimron Hetmyer to finish the game. The equation was reduced to 39 runs in the final four overs. Hetmyer and Padikkal stood in the centre. In the following two overs, the pair contributed 28 runs. They needed 11 runs in two overs. Arshdeep bowled the 19th over, and only gave three runs. He also dismissed Padikkal (31), who was struggling throughout his innings. Hetmyer (31) kept his nerve in the last over to ensure that his side end up on the winning side.
