The Indian T20 League 2022 Playoffs are just around the corner. The Eden Gardens in Kolkata is all set to host the first two matches of the playoffs, i.e Qualifier 1 and Eliminator. However, the weather conditions in Kolkata have made it difficult for the matches to go underway.

Heavy thunderstorms and heavy rain across the city have caused havoc. This has also had an impact on the preparations for Qualifier 1 at the Eden Gardens. The storm has also caused chaos on Eden Gardens' grounds, including the press box. The video of the same has gone viral across the internet.

The abrupt shift in weather in Kolkata has sent a warning signal to the BCCI and Indian T20 League organisers. With two significant matches scheduled in the city, the fans are concerned about the situation. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to continue for the next three to four days, according to the weather prediction. Qualifier 1 and Eliminator, which are slated for May 24 and 25, respectively, are still in jeopardy. If the situation does not improve, the BCCI may be compelled to find alternate venues for these two games.

However, the regulation states that if the conditions do not allow for even a single ball to be bowled, the team at the higher position in the standings will be considered the winner. "In the event that it is not possible to start the Super Over…. the team that finished highest in the league table after the 56 (70 this season) matches of the regular season shall be declared the winner of the relevant play-off match or final," state the regulations.

In the meantime, the Indian T20 League 2022 has its top four teams of the season. Gujarat and Rajasthan will play the first Qualifier, and Lucknow and Bangalore will compete in the Eliminator. Following the first two matches in Kolkata, the competition will go to Ahmedabad for the second qualifier and final on May 27th and 29th.
