Mumbai's star batter Suryakumar Yadav may have to miss out on their opening match March 27 against Delhi. He suffered a hairline fracture and may not recover in time to play the match at the Brabourne Stadium. Yadav is currently under rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bangalore. He suffered from the injury while fielding in the match against West Indies. Eventually, he missed out on the T20 series against Sri Lanka.
The Times of India quoted an anonymous BCCI source as saying, "Surya is currently at the NCA doing his rehabilitation. He is well on his way to recovery but there is a possibility that his participation in the opening game will be a real touch and go affair. So there could be a possibility that he might be advised by the board's medical team to not risk playing the opener."
Mumbai's next match will be played on April 2 against Rajasthan. The five-day gap will give Yadav enough time to recover from the injury and be a hundred per cent match ready.
"I think by the second MI game, he would be 100 per cent match fit. It is likely to be more of a precautionary measure if he doesn't play the first game," the source added.
Meanwhile, Yadav was among the four players that Mumbai retained ahead of the mega auction in February. He has become a crucial asset for the team ever since he joined Mumbai in 2018. Yadav has scored the bulk of the runs for them in the middle-order, which earned him an India call-up.
Going into this season, Yadav looked in good touch as he performed well against the West Indies and earned the player of the series award in the T20I series.
