The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested three people from two cities in the nation on Saturday for alleged match-fixing in the Indian T20 League 2022. Based on the information collected, the CBI has launched a nationwide investigation. The CBI is also investigating Pakistan's possible involvement in this affair.

The CBI has named accused Dileep Kumar of Rohini, Delhi, and Gurram Vasu of Hyderabad in its FIR. It was also said that the network involved had been in existence since 2013 and was also scamming the public by "inducing them for betting."

The FIR was lodged after the agency received a lead that "a network of individuals involved in cricket betting are influencing the outcome of Indian Premier League (IPL) matches based on inputs received from Pakistan".

The FIR stated that the three accused were running the scam using forged accounts formed in connection with unknown bank staff by submitting fabricated data such as fake names. "These bank accounts have been opened by submitting forged details such as multiple dates of birth and without due diligence done by the bank officials," read the report.

According to the FIR, a portion of the money obtained from match-fixing is being shared with allies in foreign nations using hawala transactions. "A part of the money received from the general public in India on account of such betting activities is also being shared with their associates based in foreign countries using hawala transactions," added the FIR.

The 15th edition of the Indian T20 League is underway.  Newly entrants such as Gujarat and Lucknow have qualified for the playoffs. The two most successful teams in the season, Mumbai and Chennai, are out of the top-four race. All the other teams are currently fighting for the remaining three spots in the top-four.
