The ongoing Indian T20 league 2022 has been hit with a major blow. In what comes as big news, Delhi's team have been put under quarantine. A player from the franchise has tested positive for COVID-19. Earlier, their physio Patrick Farhart had tested positive for the deadly virus as well.
According to a report by Cricbuzz, the player has been tested positive in the rapid antigen test. Thus, he will have to undergo an RT-PCR test to confirm the same. Due to this, the Delhi-based franchise have cancelled their travel to Pune, which was scheduled for today. They will have to undergo another quarantine, with COVID-19 tests which are slated to take place today and tomorrow.
It is to be noted that the Delhi-based franchise are scheduled to play Punjab on April 20, Wednesday. This game is slated to take place at the Maharashtra Cricket Association in Pune. This isn't a good sign for the 2022 edition as a few more cases would start to cause a lot of worries.
Besides, the previous edition had to be postponed midway due to several COVID-19 cases in various teams. The second phase of the 2021 edition was then conducted after four months, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). However, the BCCI wouldn't want such a scenario to occur this time around.
As far as the upcoming game between the Rishabh Pant-led side and the Punjab-based franchise are concerned, there haven't been any updates of it getting postponed. However, Delhi not travelling today means that they would barely have any time to practise ahead of their clash. However, according to the rules laid down by the Indian board, games that see a team failing to field a XI due to several COVID-19 cases shall be postponed.
“BCCI, at its discretion, will attempt to reschedule the match for later in the season if a team cannot field a playing XI due to COVID-19. If this is not possible, the issue will be referred to the Indian T20 League Technical Committee,” states the rule
