Deepak Chahar is certain to miss the first few games for Chennai in the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League. Chahar had suffered a right quadriceps injury during a T20I against the West Indies last month. Since then, he has been recovering at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). The right-arm medium pacer missed the three-match T20I series last month against Sri Lanka.
The Agra-born player was bought by Chennai at a mind-boggling price of INR 14 crores during the mega auction last month. Entered at the base price of INR 2 crore, teams such as Delhi, Hyderabad, and Rajasthan in the services of the bowling all-rounder. Notably, the 63 players hav been part of the Chennai setup since 2018. Last year, he was released as the teams were allowed to retain a maximum of only four players.
In his four-year ITL career, he has 59 scalps at an average of 29.18 and an economy rate of 7.80 with the best bowling figures of 4/13. He is a handy batter down the order with a strike rate of 138.59. Meanwhile, former India Test opener Wasim Jaffer believed that the skipper of Chennai, MS Dhoni will give the confidence to a youngster in the absence of the million dollar player. Jaffer named the players, who can play the role of a strike bowler with the new ball, a responsibility generally fulfilled by Chahar.
