Indian T20 League 2023: 3 players whom Chennai can target in the auction from their Joburg franchise squad

The mini-auction for the Indian T20 League 2023 will take place in Kochi on 23 December 2022. All franchises already submitted their final list of retained and released players list to the Board. Therefore, now they will look to add more firepower to the squad for the next season. Meanwhile, another franchise T20 League named SAT20 will kick off on 10 January 2023.

Chennai have its own team in that league also that will represent Johannesburg. Already, they have built a strong squad for that league. Players like Maheesh Theeksana, Faf du Plessis, and Harry Brook are a part of the team. But, there are some players who can become a vital addition to the squad of their in the Indian T20 League. Chennai’s team management can keep an eye on those players in the upcoming auction.  

Here are the three players from the Joburg franchise whom the Chennai franchise can target for the Indian T20 League 2023:

Harry Brook

This star middle-order batter surprised everyone with his hitting abilities for England. Before the 20-20 World Cup 2022, England played a seven-match T20I series in Pakistan. They defeated the home side by 4-3 and Harry Brook was the highest run-scorer. He scored 238 runs in six innings, at an average of 79.33. But, his strike rate was the main reason to make headlines.

Brook batted at a staggering strike rate of 163.01. Even, in the recently concluded three-match Test series in Pakistan, he managed to score three quickfire hundreds. So, Chennai can look to include this batter in their squad for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. Harry Brook will be available at a base price of INR 1.5 Crores.

Reeza Hendricks

This star batter from South Africa is known for his blistering batting abilities at the top. Reeza Hendricks has amassed 1372 runs in 48 matches at a strike rate of 125.41. He was also a part of the Proteas in the 20-20 World Cup 2022. But, he did not play a single game. However, before the World Cup, he won the player of the series award in both the T20I series in England and Ireland.

Hendricks was the highest scorer in both of those series. In the England series, he scored 180 runs in three matches, at an average of 60 and a strike rate of 156.52. Then, in the Ireland series, he scored 116 runs in two matches, at an average of 58. So, MS Dhoni might look to include in the squad for the Indian T20 League 2023. Reeza Hendricks will be available at a base price of INR 50 Lakhs. 

Romario Shepherd

This star all-rounder from West Indies can be a vital part of the Chennai franchise for the next edition of the Indian T20 League. In the last edition, Romario Shepherd played for the Hyderabad franchise. He scored 58 runs in three matches at an average of 29 and a strike rate of 141.46. With the ball also, he picked up three wickets in three matches but at a high economy of 10.89.

But, in the Super50 Cup in West Indies, he did well for Guyana. Shepherd managed to score two fifty-plus scores along with 10 wickets with the ball in seven matches. Hence, his slow-cutters can be effective for Chennai this time around as matches will happen in Cheapuak. Romario Shepherd will be available at a base price of INR 50 Lakhs.
