The Indian Cricket Board is planning to hold the auction for the upcoming season of the Indian T20 League in mid-December this year. Reportedly the schedule for the auction has already been discussed among the partaking franchises after the owners got approval from the Indian Cricket Board in an informal conversation. December 16th is likely to be the date for the auction.
According to the reports, this will be a mini-auction and the venues for the same are yet to be finalised. The dates for the upcoming Indian T20 League also have not been finalised but it is likely to start in the fourth week of March in 2023.
The format however has been restored to the old home and away legs, as the Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly had earlier informed. He had said, “The next season of men's IPL will also go back to the home and away format with all 10 teams playing their home matches at their designated venues.”
When it comes to the mini-auction, the salary purse would be increased to INR 95 Crores, five crores more than the last year. This means that the franchise will have a purse of Rs 5 Crores and can further swell and shrink based on the release or trade of their players. Ravindra Jadeja is one of the most prominent players to likely be traded by the Chennai team following their fallout in the mid stages of the Indian T20 League 2022. There is speculation that the batting all-rounder could either be traded or released by the Chennai franchise.
Last season’s winner Gujarat are also reportedly in talks with Chennai to trade Shubman Gill for Jadeja in the upcoming edition. Apart from Jadeja, there are requests for Rahul Tewatia and R Sai Kishore but the Gujarat franchise has squashed all rumours as of right now. The Indian T20 League transfer window will remain open till one week before the auction and will re-open after the mini-auction has passed.
