To all the Lucknow fans, the wait is over as the Lucknow franchise has revealed the name of their team for the Indian T20 League 2022. The team will be known as Lucknow Super Giants. The franchise ran a campaign, 'Naam Batao, Naam Kamao' on social media and requested the fans to suggest the name of the team. After receiving an overwhelming response, the franchise zeroed in Lucknow Super Giants. “We conducted a poll to decide the name of the franchise, we received an overwhelming response and the most popular name came out was Lucknow Supergiants,” said owner Sanjeev Goenka on Backstage with Boria.
Speaking about Lucknow Super Giants, the team will be led by KL Rahul. The franchise had also roped in Marcus Stoinis and Ravi Bishnoi ahead of the auction. They have former Punjab Coach, Andy Flower as their head coach, while Gautam Gambhir will mentor the side. Vijay Dahiya will be the assistant coach.
This is the first time that a team from Uttar Pradesh will be participating in the Indian T20 League. The franchise will now look to build a strong team in the auction. They have 59.80 crore purse left for the auction. The mega auction is all set to take place on February 12 and 13 in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, there are reports that BCCI is mulling over shifting the Indian T20 League from India to South Africa. The COVID-19 cases are on the rise in India and the board does not want to take any chances. However, the franchises want the tournament in India. If the tournament is staged in India, it is likely to be held only in Maharashtra.
