Hyderabad picked up an eight-wicket win over Chennai to record their first win of the season. Hyderabad won the toss and went with the obvious choice of bowling first. Chennai lost their openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Robin Uthappa within the powerplay. Washington Sundar got the first wicket as he dismissed Robin Uthappa for 15 runs in 11 balls. T Natarajan then bowled out Ruturaj Gaikwad for a score of 16 in 13 balls. Chennai scored 41 runs in the powerplay.
Ambati Rayudu and Moeen Ali batted well for the 4th wicket partnership as they added 62 runs together. Rayudu ended with a score of 27 runs in 27 balls before being dismissed by Washington Sundar. Ali missed his half-century by just two runs as Aiden Markram got rid of him. Ravindra Jadeja also played a cameo of 23 in 15 balls, but Chennai lost five wickets in the last seven overs as they could manage 154 runs on the board.
Sundar and Natarajan got two wickets each, while Markram, Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Marco Jansen also got a wicket each.
While chasing 155, Kane Williamson and Abhishek Sharma tried to build a partnership and pace the innings accordingly. They managed to do so as they added 89 runs together before Williamson was dismissed in the 13th over. He scored 32 runs in 40 balls. Rahul Tripathi joined Sharma and played a quick knock of 39 runs in 15 balls, hitting five fours and two sixes.
Dwayne Bravo then picked the wicket of Sharma in the 18th over for a score of 75 runs in 50 balls. He hit five fours and three sixes in his innings. In the end, Rahul Tripathi hit a four in the 18th over to take Hyderabad through.
