Lucknow and Rajasthan locked horns in the 20th game of the Indian T20 League at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The Men in Mint Green won the toss and bowled first. Rajasthan had a decent start as openers ,Jos Buttler (13) and Devdutt Padikkal stitched a partnership of 42 runs in 5.1 overs.
The former was clean bowled by Avesh Khan in the last over of the powerplay. Three overs later, skipper Sanju Samson (13)was trapped lbw by Jason Holder. The team was further jolted by twin strikes (Padikkal and Rassie van der Dussen) from Krishnappa Gowtham in the 10th over. With the team tottering at 67/4, the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Ravichandran Ashwin (28*) stitched a partnership of 68 runs.
The latter decided to retire out with only eight balls remaining in the innings at the score of 135. Ashwin played steadily for his 28 off 23 while Hetmyer scored 59* off 36, including six hits over the ropes and a four. The team went on to score a respectable total of 165/6. For the league debutants, Holder and Gowtham took two wickets each while Khan took one. In reply, the KL Rahul-led side had a forgettable start.
They lost the wickets of their skipper and Gowtham with neither of them scoring a run. The duo got out to Trent Boult in the first over of the innings. Prasidh Krishna also bowled well and was rewarded with the wicket of Holder.
At 14/3, the likes of Deepak Hooda (25) and Quinton de Kock stitched a partnership of 38 runs before the former was clean bowled by debutant Kuldeep Sen. After this, the side went downhill as they lost eight wickets for 126 runs. Yuzvendra Chahal took a four-wicket haul in this phase. Marcus Stoinis (38* off 17) played a cameo but that wasn't good enough to win the match.
