Kolkata beat Punjab by six wickets, with assistance from Andre Russell and Umesh Yadav. Losing the toss, Punjab was asked to bat first. Mayank Agarwal fell early to Umesh Yadav's excellent delivery. After that, Bhanuka Rajapaksa put up an excellent show as he raced to 31 runs in nine balls. He hit three sixes and three fours in the innings. Punjab's middle-order completely failed to perform in the rest of the innings. Towards the end, Kagiso Rabada scored a few runs. He got important 25 runs to help Punjab reach 137.

Umesh Yadav was the star with the ball as he took a four-wicket hall. He conceded just 23 runs to get to his best figures in the Indian T20 League. Tim Southee also was effective with the ball as he took two wickets in his spell. Shivam Mavi and Andre Russell were also in the game as they took a wicket each.

During the chase, Kolkata did not get the start they were looking for as they lost Ajinkya Rahane early on. They kept losing wickets regularly after that. At 51/4, it was up to Andre Russell to take his team through. He smashed bowlers all across the park as he scored 70 runs in 31 balls. He hit just two fours and eight massive sixes in the innings. Sam Billings also supported him well and scored an unbeaten 24 in 23 balls.

For Punjab, only Rahul Chahar was effective with the ball as he took two wickets conceding just 13 runs in his spell.
