Lucknow beat Chennai by six wickets to win their first game of the Indian T20 League. Being asked to bat first, Chennai had a great start to their innings. Robin Uthappa gave the team a blistering start he reminded everyone what he is capable of doing. He scored a 25-ball fifty and helped Chennai get 73 runs in the powerplay. Moeen Ali and Shivam Dube also scored quick runs to help the team reach a good total. In the end, MS Dhoni also played a short cameo as he scored 16 runs in six balls. He hit two fours and a six to get there. Chennai ended their innings with 210 runs on the board and lost seven wickets in the process.

Ravi Bishnoi was the only Lucknow player who shone with the ball. He took two wickets in his spell of four overs and conceded just 24 runs. He took the important wickets of Robin Uthappa and Ambati Rayudu. No other bowler was economical in the innings, but Andrew Tye and Avesh Khan picked up two wickets each.

Lucknow then rectified their mistake from the previous match as they got off to a good start. KL Rahul and Quinton de Kock gave them a perfect start as the duo added 99 runs on the board before Rahul was dismissed for 40. He scored three sixes and two fours in a 26-balls knock. After losing a few wickets, Even Lewis had a big job of getting the team through. He managed to do that as he went all out in the 19th over and reached his 50. In the end, Ayush Badoni finished the job as he hit a six in the final over.

For Chennai, only Dwayne Pretorius was effective with the ball. He conceded just 31 runs in four overs when others were hit for a few runs. He also took two wickets in the match.
