In the third match of the five-match T20I series, India defeated South Africa by 48 runs. Rishabh Pant's team got off to a terrific start with the bat, which helped them set up the innings beautifully. They slowed down in the end, but still managed a solid total on a decent batting pitch. After which, the bowlers took wickets at regular intervals to easily win the match. With this victory, India took the score line to 2-1 and maintained their chances of winning the series.

Temba Bavuma won the toss and decided to field first in Vizag. This worked out well for them, as Ishan Kishan and Ruturaj Gaikwad had a great start.  While Gaikwad took on the bowlers right on, Kishan was there to assist him. They led the team in scoring 57 runs in the powerplay. Following that, the left-hander found his groove, and Gaikwad hit his half-century.

In 10 overs, they scored 97 runs together. Gaikwad's breakthrough wicket was taken by Keshav Maharaj (57). Shreyas Iyer (14) and Kishan (54) then put up a modest 31-run partnership until the 13th over. The team, however, slowed dramatically after the two were dismissed. Rishabh Pant (six) and Dinesh Karthik (six) did not contribute much. However, Hardik Pandya (31) then played a superb cameo. He was brilliant in the last few overs, guiding his side to 179 runs.

From the start of the second innings, the Indian bowlers put a lot of pressure on the batters. South Africa scored 38 runs in the powerplay owing to early swing and great bowling changes from Pant. They then lost two wickets in the process. Despite the ideal batting conditions, the Proteas were unable to form any big partnerships in their innings. Yuzvendra Chahal and Harshal Patel were the standout performers as they dismissed in-form batters.

Half of South Africa's team was dismissed for 71 runs in 11 overs. David Miller (three) and Heinrich Klaasen (29) were anticipated to perform well, but failed to do so. The team kept losing wickets and never looked like winning the game. Harshal Patel grabbed the final wicket on the first ball of the final over, for a team total of 131 runs.
