India’s midfielder Navjot Kaur's campaign in the Commonwealth Games 2022 ended abruptly after she tested positive for Covid-19. Kaur is set to fly back home after her Test came positive and she won’t be taking part in the competition anymore. The 27-year-old had been in isolation for the past two days and will be replaced by Sonika in the 18-member women's squad.

India opened their campaign with a thumping 5-0 win over Ghana on Friday.

"She has been kept in isolation. Her CT value is not infectious and she has no symptoms. She tested positive in the first test but in the second test her CT value improved and she can't infect others. She has been cleared to fly back to India by the organisers," a team source told PTI.

Navjot was a member of the silver-winning team at the Asian Games in Jakarta and bronze winner from Incheon in 2014. The 300-plus Indian contingent has been largely unaffected by Covid so far in the tournament.

Two members of the Indian cricket team, Pooja Vastrakar and S Meghana tested positive in India but have recovered. Meghana has already joined the team and Pooja is likely to join before the third game against Barbados on August 3.

Earlier this week, the organisers of the event had stated that the Games Village was reporting a dozen cases per day. The Commonwealth Games is the first major event in the sporting world to be held without any major Covid restrictions since the start of the pandemic.

However, The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) has advised the country’s contingent to avoid going in public and stay indoors given the ongoing threat of the pandemic. India opened their account in the Birmingham Games on Saturday as Sanket Mahadev Sargar won a silver in the Men’s 55kg category in weightlifting. Gururaja Poojary brought the second medal home for the country as he won a bronze after he finished third in the 61 kg category of weightlifting.
