With yet another disappointing performance, Smriti Mandhana-led Bangalore succumbed to in-form Delhi in the 11th game of the Women's T20 League. Delhi defeated Bangalore by six wickets on Monday, and, thereby, registered 4 wins in 5 matches. After losing wickets in quick succession allrounder Marizanne Kapp along with Jess Jonassen helped Delhi to clinch the nail-biting thriller.
Both Jonassen and Kapp added unbeaten 45 runs for the fifth wicket and led Delhi to glory. Kapp in her innings scored 32 runs off 32 balls while Jonassen hammered 29 runs off 15 balls. Earlier, after winning the Toss Delhi skipper Meg Lanning decided to bowl first. The decision did go well with the team as Bangalore got a very poor start.
Despite having short boundaries Bangalore succumbed and kept losing wickets at quick intervals. In 12 overs they bearly managed to post 60 runs for 3 wickets. Australian allrounder Ellyse Perry then came ahead and tried to rescue her team. She played one of the most fighting innings in the Women's T20 League as she scored 67 runs off 52 balls with four boundaries and five maximums.
Perry along with Richa Ghosh added 74 runs for the fourth wicket taking Delhi to a fighting total of 150/4. Richa in her innings scored 37 runs off 16 balls with the help of three boundaries and as many maximums. Richa was dismissed by senior pacer Shikha Pandey who took three wickets including Sophie Devine and Mandhana. She gave just 23 runs in her four overs while Tara Norris also clinched a wicket.
Jess Jonassen disheartened Bangalore once again
While cashing 150 Delhi was in deep trouble after losing two wickets in the powerplay. Opener Shafali Verma was dismissed by Megan Schutt for a golden duck. While captain Meg Lanning and Alice Capsey who tried to build a partnership failed and got out for 15 and 38 runs respectively.
However, South Africa allrounder Marizanne Kapp along with Jess Jonassen made an unbeaten partnership and handed Bangalore yet another disappointment. Kapp played as an anchor while Jonassen went with all their guns against the Bangalore women.
Meanwhile, fans react to the continuous poor performance of Smriti Mandhana-led Bangalore. A Twitter user said, "Inki kundali check karwao naam me hi dosh hai."
