Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra is of the opinion that South Africa will get knocked out of the upcoming mega event in the Super 12 round itself. The Proteas are in Group 1 alongside England, West Indies and Australia and add to it two other teams coming up from Round 1.
Interestingly, they are coming into the tournament on the back of some amazing form. They have won nine out of their last 10 T20 Internationals. However, Chopra feels they won't be able to continue the same form in the competition.
"This team hasn't gone anywhere and this year as well, unfortunately I don't see them going anywhere ahead in the tournament. They are on a run winning nine out of 10 T20Is but I doubt they can continue the same form in the T20 World Cup. They might spoil a few parties but I don't think they can make it to the semifinal," the cricketer-turned-commentator said in his Youtube show 'Cricket Chaupaal'.
Moreover, Aakash Chopra also reckons that South Africa won't have a good time in Sharjah which is expected to dish out slow surfaces if the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is any indication to go by. South Africa will be playing two matches in Sharjah, one against one of the qualifying teams and the other against title favourites England.
"South Africa will struggle in Sharjah because they don't have good batters who can play well against quality spinners. The lack of stroke makers in the side will be a massive problem for the Proteas," Chopra added.
