Delhi Capitals (DC) figured out how to advance to the playoffs in the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL). Driven by Shreyas Iyer, DC beat the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by six wickets at the Sheik Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi, on Monday, November 2. DC finishes second on the IPL 2020 points table behind the defending champions Mumbai Indians (MI). In Qualifier 1 on Thursday, November 5, DC will battle against MI in a mission to make the finals.
The Capitals limited the Challengers to 152 for the loss of seven wickets in their 20 overs. In the run-chase, Shikhar Dhawan and Ajinkya Rahane's half-centuries guided DC over the line without a lot of complaints.
Despite the defeat, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) also sealed their place in the Knock out stage. They finish 3rd in the points table. Virat Kohli's men will confront either Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) or Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the Eliminator. Indeed, even as three spots in the playoffs are decided, the fourth will be chosen after MI's match against SRH on Tuesday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
DC accomplish a new and unique record
Meanwhile, after the victory in their last league game versus the Challengers, the Capitals accomplished an extraordinary record. They completed second on the points table for the first time in the team's history.
DC will have a tough challenge ahead. In the league stage, as MI crushed them on two occasions. The Capitals should do their absolute best to reverse the situation.
In 2019, they made the Qualifier 2 where they lost the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Vizag. DC is yet to win the title and would plan to get their hands on the prize going ahead.
