Dhoni's "Yellow Army" is one of the most glorious, dominating, and influential teams in the history of IPL. It is the first time that the Chennai based franchise has failed to qualify for the playoffs. They were eliminated straight from the league stage of IPL 2020. It has been a disappointing season for CSK. They seemed to have been underprepared and missed the services of their experienced players, such as Suresh Raina and Harbhajan Singh.

The young CSK batsman, Ruturaj Gaikwad, expressed how his captain inspired him after his tough start in the IPL 2020. The 23-year-old also stated how his tournament started on the worst possible note. He was tested positive for COVID-19 and didn't get sufficient time to train.

Consequently, Gaikwad missed the first match against Mumbai Indians. He got the chance to play the following game against Rajasthan Royals. However, Gaikwad, who was making his IPL debut, failed to seize the opportunity and was out for a duck. In his next two innings, he recorded scores of 5 and 0 against Delhi Capitals and Mumbai Indians, sequentially.

Dhoni backed the young lad for their last three games of the season and probably that is what worked for him. The youngster totally justified the faith shown in him by smashing three consecutive fifties.

"MS Dhoni had expectations from me", Ruturaj Gaikwad

The Maharashtra star revealed how the CSK skipper sensed his state of mind and assured him that he would play in the last three games of the season irrespective of how he performed in them. Dhoni certainly lived true to his words and Gaikwad completely justified his skipper's faith.

Ruturaj Gaikwad reported how MS Dhoni and the management had expectations from him. MS Dhoni decided to give more opportunities following his controversial remark and told him not to worry about the highs and lows and enjoy the games. That encouraged the 23-year-old, who ultimately finished the season with 204 runs from six games.

With six wins from 14 games, the three-time champions finished the tournament at the seventh spot. CSK will hope to overcome the glitch in 2020 when they enter the field in IPL 2021.
