IPL 2020 – The Journey and Fall of the Andre Russell from 2019 to 2020

It was the match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore. He came in the 12th over when KKR had already lost 4 wickets, and their score read 79. Chasing a big target of 214 at a run rate of almost 17 was looking almost impossible. However, after coming to bat in the 12th over, Andre Russell kept the fire in Kolkata Knight Riders alive, right till the last over of the match. Smashing 65 off 25 balls, which included 9 gigantic sixes, RCB could finally send him back. KKR lost the game to Royal Challengers Bangalore. However, Russell was successful in giving RCB a massive scare.

Everyone is aware of Andre Russell's magnificent performance from the 2019 IPL tournament. Russell was unstoppable, giving the most destructive and devastating batting performance in IPL history.

During IPL 2019, Russell scored 510 runs in 13 innings at the strike rate of 204.81. He became the highest scorer for KKR. He was the fifth-highest scorer overall in the last season.

How IPL 2020 shaped up for Andre Russell?

Andre Russell managed to score 92 runs in 8 innings. His highest score was 24 runs against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He has got numerous opportunities to perform for his side but has failed to deliver in all the games. The tournament has been a disaster for Russell so far.

Russell’s confidence is low in the ongoing IPL. He has a strike rate of 131.42 in the tournament. Pat Cummins, Dinesh Karthik, Rahul Tripathi, Nitish Rana, and Eoin Morgan have a higher strike rate than Russell for KKR.

Russell's scoring rate is his worst since the 2015 IPL edition. At a strike rate of 192.89, he had scored 326 runs in 2015. In 2016, he scored 188 runs at a strike rate of 164. In 2018 and 2019, he scored 316 runs at 184.79 and 510 runs at 204.81 respectively.

He needs to bring the fire in him back soon, or else IPL 2020 can turn to be his worst nightmare!
