IPL 2020 - The secret of Quinton De Kock’s return to form is self-trust

Quinton De Kock, the wicketkeeper-batsman of Mumbai Indians, has been praised by James Pamment, who is the fielding coach of the team after their win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. The team smashed Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at Sharjah. Quinton De Kock was the top scorer for Mumbai Indians as they finally posted 28 runs on the scoreboard for SRH to chase. The fielding coach of the defending champions stressed that De Kock never lost his self-belief.

During their first game against Chennai Super Kings, Quinton De Kock scored 20-ball 33 and began this 13^th season of IPL on a positive note. But sadly, in the next three matches, he scored just of 1, 14, and 0 runs. The Mumbai team has won three matches out of five so far. And the entire responsibility to score runs by the top-order fell on its skipper, Rohit Sharma. But in the turn of events, De Kock smashed 67 runs off 39, hit four fours and a few sixes to declare his return to form.

James Pamment appreciates Quinton De Kock's talent

James Pamment, the fielding coach, appreciates the domineering aptitude of Quinton De Kock to score runs. But, he believes the cricketer still had to work hard and go a long way to attain those. The most vital factor was the self-trust in him, which never faded away from him. This is the reason that he was able to return to form.

“We all know the quality that Quinton possess, so I’m not saying that it was just a matter of time, but you have to still work extremely hard. You still have to believe in yourself and he never stopped believing in his ability to be effective for the team,” Pamment stated.

The fielding coach added further to his insight that it was wonderful to witness De Kock partnering with Ishan Kishan and scoring 78 runs together. It was the meaningful partnership of their team in that match. Playing at Sharjah for the first time and winning is a happy moment for Pamment along with giving some good performances in the tournament.

“It was nice to see him go on and forge a good partnership with Ishan (Kishan) and set the foundation for those destructive boys to come in the end. It’s an excellent win, to travel to Sharjah for the first time and to pick up a win, against strong team. We have won two in a row. To do it in the manner we did, with a very consistent batting performance, good bowling performance and good fielding performance, it is very satisfying,” he added.

Mumbai Indians is currently at the 2^nd place on the points table of IPL 2020 with 6 points.
