The IPL 2020 is done and dusted, with Mumbai Indians defending the IPL title by beating Delhi Capitals. The 6-week tournament kept fans on the edge of their seats. With nail-biting endings to some terrific cricketing performances, the IPL had it all.
However, there were some overhyped performances from players who delivered in only a select few matches. Here we list 11 such players.
1. KL Rahul
Rahul was the leading run-scorer this season, amassing 670 runs in 14 matches throughout the season. The reason he is on this list is because of his average strike, only 129.34 this season. However, Rahul’s mediocre strike rate could be attributed to the instability of the team’s batting lineup.
2. Shubman Gill
The KKR batsman showed promising signs this season, finishing with 440 runs in just 14 innings. However, Gill initially struggled in IPL 2020, averaging a strike rate of just 117.96 this season. However, with glimpses of his batting, we could get to see an improvement in his consistency.
3. Virat Kohli
The star RCB batsman managed to amass 466 runs in 15 games, finishing only behind Devdutt Padikkal. Virat, just like KL Rahul, could not rely on his team’s batting lineup. The risk of losing a wicket overpowered the hard-hitting that Virat Kohli usually displays in his batting.
4. Shreyas Iyer
DC’s captain was one of their key players in the season. Guiding his team to the finals, Iyer smashed 519 runs in just 19 matches. However, his only unsatisfactory statistic was his below-par strike rate of 123.27 this season.
5. Steve Smith
Fifth on this list is RR captain Steve Smith. Smith started on a high note, smashing two half-centuries in the first two games for RR. However, in his next 12 innings, he only hit one fifty, leading to a considerable drop in his strike rate and average.
6. MS Dhoni
The former Indian captain was on everyone’s watch this season. However, it was a dismal season for the CSK skipper. Bagging just 200 runs in 14 games, captain cool was certainly not at his best form this season.
7. Sunil Narine
The star KKR all-rounder endured a rather torrid season in IPL 13. Bagging only 5 wickets in 10 games, he couldn’t do his team any favors this season.
8. Pat Cummins
The most expensive buy this season. However, he failed to justify his price tag this season. Picking up a meager 12 wickets this season, Cummins was definitely not the best value buy this season.
9. Tom Curran
With just 3 wickets in 5 matches, Curran is another foreign player who failed to impress this season. An economy of 11.6 does not do justice to the potential he has.
10. Piyush Chawla
Chawla is well past his prime now, and hence was benched by CSK most of the season. He only managed to bag 6 wickets in 7 games.
11. Rahul Chahar
Last on the list is Rahul Chahar. Even though he managed to bag 12 wickets this season, Chahar was dropped in the final.
