Champions of the first IPL edition, Rajasthan Royals endured a rollercoaster ride in 2020. After starting the season with a bang, everyone expected RR to cruise into the playoffs. However, to everyone’s surprise, things took a u-turn for the Rajasthan franchise. RR finished last at the points table and failed to qualify for the playoffs. One reason this happened is because of the team’s inconsistency in the 2nd half of the IPL 2020. However, the Royals will look to put their disastrous IPL 2020 campaign behind them. It is quite clear that the RR franchise has the players to win the IPL trophy. That said, here is a list of 5 players who guide RR to their 2nd IPL trophy this year:
5. Rahul Tewatia
Tewatia came into the limelight when he successfully helped RR secure a victory against Punjab. Tewatia smashed 53 off just 31 runs, as Rajasthan registered a historic victory in IPL 2020. Tewatia played 14 games for RR in IPL 2020, amassing 255 runs and picking 10 wickets in the entire season. If Tewatia puts in another successful campaign for RR this year, we might see him don the Indian jersey soon.
4. Chris Morris
Morris became the talk of the town after he became the most expensive signing in IPL history worth 16.5 cr. Recruited by RR, Morris has been one of the most consistent performers in the IPL. In 70 matches, Morris scalped an impressive 80 wickets with a superb economy of 7.13. Morris will lead the RR bowling lineup alongside Jofra Archer. Morris is expected to deliver superb bowling figures in the IPL this season.
3. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is arguably one of the most talented batsmen in the Indian subcontinent. However, Samson failed to impress in the international format with India. After a series of disappointing performances, Samson was eventually dropped from the squad for the limited-overs series against England. The IPL 2021 could be Samson’s final chance to prove his mettle to the Indian selectors. With RR’s captaincy in hand, Samson will look to lead his team to IPL glory this year.
2. Jos Buttler
Buttler is arguably the most explosive batsman in the RR squad. Buttler had a superb outing with England in the limited-overs series against India. If the England cricketer continues his red hot form in IPL 2021, he might probably win the orange cap as well. Buttler certainly has the ability to change RR’s fortunes this year in the IPL.
1. Ben Stokes
The England all-rounder could be just the match-winner RR needs in the IPL this year. After a solid outing against India in the limited-overs against India, Ben Stokes will look to set the IPL on fire. In IPL 2020, Stokes blasted 285 runs in just 8 matches with a season-best of 107. Stokes is not only handy with the bat, but can also pick crucial wickets for his side. The English cricketer will carry the most threat from RR against opposition teams in the IPL this year.
