Daniel Sams tests positive for COVID-19 ahead of the season opener

IPL 2021 kickstarts on April 9 with Virat Kohli's RCB facing off against the defending champions Mumbai Indians in Chennai in the season-opener. Earlier on Wednesday, Bangalore's overseas pick Daniel Sams tested positive for the virus. The Australian all-rounder had tested negative on his arrival on April 3, but his reports came positive on April 7. During his 10-day isolation period, Daniel Sams will undergo an RT-PCR test on 9th and 10th day. The all-rounder will only be allowed to re-enter the team bio-bubble after both the test results are negative.

On April 6, Royal Challengers posted a video of their top buys of the tournament joining the camp. Glenn Maxwell was seen playing a few unorthodox shots, including reverse sweeps, switch hits and scoops off Yuzvendra Chahal and Daniel Christian. New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson bowled in the training session as well. Also, 12 ground staffs at the Wankhede Stadium have tested positive for COVID-19. It is the venue for the second game of the season between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings. Since Padikkal is likely to miss the opening match, Kohli will have to choose between Mohammed Azharuddeen and Finn Allen as his partner.
