The World Test Championship final is just around the corner. India has named a strong team for the match against New Zealand in the final. The World Test Championship final is on the 18th of June.

The India Team is going into the final without much practice. It is due to quarantine rules and the 2021 Indian Premier League (IPL). Nevertheless, the bowlers of the India Team for the WTC final can make the most of the conditions in England. They also acquired a good amount of game time in IPL 2021.

The performance of players who are considered all-rounder is not evaluated here. Also not evaluated are Umesh Yadav and Arzan Nagwaswalla who did not play in IPL 2021.

How did India’s World Test Championship bowlers perform in IPL 2021?

Mohammed Shami (5.5/10)

Mohammed Shami did not achieve his objective of leading the bowling attack of the Punjab kings this season. He took eight wickets in eight games. His economic rate was 8.16.  He was rather inconsistent throughout the season.

He would be invaluable in the friendly condition of the United Kingdom

Jasprit Bumrah (6/10)

After returning from a long lay-off, Bumrah’s performance was not at its best. It was economical at best. He bowled the most expensive overs of his career against the Chennai Superkings. He picked up six wickets at seven games. His economic rate in the league was 7.11.

Jaspreet Bumrah has a key role to play in the World Test Championship final on behalf of the Indian Team.

Prasidh Krishna(6/10)

Prasidh did not perform fare well in the IPL 2021. He managed to take eight wickets in seven games but his economy rate of 9 should have been better. He is a reserve player for the team India. Still, it is tough to envision him getting picked even in case of an injury to one of the prime pacers.

Ishant Sharma (6.5/10)

He is considered the test specialist for team India. But he defies the odds with his consistent performance in the IPL. It has opened up opportunities for him in T20 format.

Ishant Sharma took only one wicket in the three he played. His economy rate was 8.08 in IPL 2021. But he was penetrative with the new ball. He also bowled well in the middle overs.

Avesh Khan (9/10)

Avesh Khan had a breakout stint in this season of IPL. He rose to the second position on the Purple cap charts before the tournament was called off. He had an impressive economic rate throughout the league. Avesh picked up 14 wickets in the eight games he played. His performance was lethal at every stage of the innings.

In near future, he may call up to the main squad. He is a reserve player, for the WTC final.

Mohammed Siraj(9.5/10)

Mohammed Siraj was undoubtedly the best pacer on display in IPL 2201. He led the RCB’s charge in the powerplay and delivered accurate yorkers when needed. He picked up 6 wickets in seven games at an economy rate of 7.34.

Siraj can get selected as the third pacer for the WTC final. His performance in the IPL helped solidified his position within the India team.
