Delhi Capitals' IPL campaign started on a positive note as they defeated three-time IPL champions CSK in their opening match. DC, the runners-up of the 13th season, played fearless cricket and vanquished the Yellow Army by seven wickets. Rishabh Pant and the team will now play against Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals (RR) for Match No. 7. The game is going to be played at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

South African pacer Anrich Nortje is not going to be available as his COVID-19 test reports are still awaited. The 27-year-old entered the hotel quarantine with a negative result but returned a positive result in his 2nd Covid-19 test. As per the IPL SOP, all players who have returned positive are tested once again in order to ensure that the first RT-PCR outcome wasn't a false one. However, the good news for Delhi based franchise is that Kagiso Rabada has cleared his RT-PCR tests. He has joined the squad's training session as well.

Kagiso Rabada joins the team for his first training session

Nortje and fellow seamer Rabada had traveled together and reached Mumbai on April 6. The duo was anticipated to be available from the second game onwards, after the completion of their seven days of hard quarantine and a negative RT-PCR test result. Now it looks like only Kagiso Rabada will be available for selection. The franchise recently tweeted a picture of his first training session.

Despite being without Rabada, Nortje, and Axar Patel in the first match, DC produced an effective win against CSK. Pacers Chris Woakes and Avesh Khan scalped two wickets each as Delhi restricted Chennai to 188/7 in 20 overs. In response, Prithvi Shaw and Shikhar Dhawan dismantled the CSK bowling unit. They stitched 138 runs for the opening wicket in 13.3 overs.

Since his poor show in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Prithvi Shaw, who had been under the scanner, played one of the best innings of his IPL career. Delhi Capitals successfully chased down Chennai's 188-run total in 18.4 overs. The team management would have been looking forward to the return of the South African pace duo for the next match. Nortje testing positive for Covid-19 would have come as a big shock for the Delhi-based franchise considering they are already without their regular skipper Shreyas Iyer.
