Mumbai Indians star batsman Kieron Pollard will be on the brink of becoming the sixth cricketer in IPL to reach the 200 sixes mark. The defending champions will take on Royal Challengers Bangalore in the season-opener of IPL 2021 on Friday. Kieron Pollard, so far in his IPL career, has smashed 198 sixes in 164 IPL matches. If he hits two more sixes, then he would take his total tally to 200. Apart from the Caribbean all-rounder, the other players in the elite list include Chris Gayle (349), AB de Villiers (235), MS Dhoni (216), Rohit Sharma (213), and Virat Kohli (201).

Last year in UAE, Pollard amassed 268 runs in 16 games at an outstanding average of more than 50 and a strike rate of 191.42. This also included 22 sixes and 15 fours. Surprisingly, the 33-year-old is also just four boundaries away from accomplishing 200 fours in the cash-rich league.

Kieron Pollard has featured in 164 games for Mumbai Indians

Talking about Keiron Pollard, he is one of the very few cricketers in the IPL who has been with the same franchise for more than a decade. The all-rounder came into the spotlight after his exploits in the now-defunct Champions League in 2009. Pollard first featured in the Mumbai Indians team in 2010 and since then has been a permanent fixture in the franchise. Having played 164 games in the cash-rich league, Pollard has accumulated 3023 runs at an excellent strike rate of 149.87. He also has 60 scalps to his name in the T20 tournament.

The first IPL match of the season between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is going to be held in Chennai's M.A. Chidambaram Stadium. The Mumbai-based franchise has retained their core team ahead of IPL 2021, and they will undoubtedly start the season as favorites. Both the franchises have mostly lost their first matches in the previous seasons. Also, of the last ten encounters between them, Virat Kohli and Co. have lost eight times against the reigning champions. Led by Rohit Sharma, MI has won the IPL title five times, whereas the RCB led by Virat Kohli will look to end their drought for an IPL title. Rohit Sharma and the team will play their first five matches in Chennai before traveling to Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru for their league stage matches.
