The 13th match of IPL 2021 saw IPL 2020 finalists DC and MI lock horns. This time, DC got the better of the IPL 2020 champions. Batting first, MI went on to post a total of 137 on the board. In reply, DC chased the total with 5 balls to spare and won the match by 6 wickets. With this victory, DC are now at 2nd place in the points table. Meanwhile, MI have now slipped to the 4th spot in the IPL 2021 points table. That said, here are 3 reasons why DC ebay MI in the 13th match of IPL 2021:

3. MI’s batsmen had no answer to DC’s bowling tactics

In the match against MI, DC brought in Amit Mishra and Shimron Hetmyer in the starting lineup. However, DC also tweaked their bowling tactics this time. Instead of opening the bowling with Kagiso Rabada, DC opted for the duo of R Ashwin and Marcus Stoinis. This tactic paid off, as Ashwin conceded minimal runs while Stoinis picked the wicket of Quinton de Kock. The decision to use Stoinis in the start meant that DC could use Ashwin, Rabada and Amit Mishra throughout the course of MI’s innings.

2. MI’s batting order derailed against DC’s spinners

Prior to de Kock’s dismissal, Suryakumar Yadav stepped into the crease. Mumbai Indians were looking on course to post a big total. However, Avesh Khan got DC the breakthrough it needed by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav. Prior to that, Amit Mishra gave DC another major breakthrough. Mishra scalped the big wicket of MI skipper Rohit Sharma in the 8th over of MI’s innings. Following this, MI’s batting order completely derailed. MI were down to 84/6 at the end of the 11th over. Somehow, they managed to post 137 runs with a loss of 9 wickets. Amit Mishra was DC’s standout bowler, scalping 4 wickets in 4 overs and conceding just 24 runs in total. Owing to his brilliant bowling, Mishra was named Man of the Match.

1. Shikhar Dhawan’s stable innings with the bat

Even though Dhawan was not quite explosive with the bat against MI, his solid knock of 45 ensured that DC got to the winning line comfortably. Chasing 138, Dhawan amassed 45 runs off 42 balls, amassing a total of 5 fours and 1 six in his innings. Unfortunately. Dhawan could not get a fifty as he was dismissed at the end of the 14th over. However, the damage was already done. DC only needed 38 runs in 30 balls to win the match. Contributions from Steve Smith and Lalit Yadav sealed the deal for DC, handing a 2nd loss to MI in IPL 2021.
