IPL 2021: Mitchell Marsh pulls out of the tournament

Sunrisers Hyderabad has suffered a massive blow as their all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has reportedly decided to skip the forthcoming tournament. The Australian all-rounder has pulled out of the fourteenth edition of the league, citing his inability to spend lengthy times inside the bio-secure bubble. All the cricketers will have to enter the bio-bubble right from the time they join their respective IPL teams. They would only be permitted to go outside after the completion of the tournament. However, Marsh has decided against spending the next couple of months in the bio-secure bubble. As per Cricbuzz, the all-rounder has informed his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad a few days back.

As per Cricbuzz, the all-rounder has informed his decision to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and Sunrisers Hyderabad a few days back.

Jason Roy is most likely to replace Mitchell Marsh in the SRH squad

According to the latest IPL bio-security protocols, Mitchell Marsh would have to stay in the mandatory seven-day quarantine before entering the bio-secure bubble formed for his team. The 29-year old had also missed the better part of last year’s IPL after the Hyderabad-based franchise secured his services for INR 2 crore in the 2020 auction. He had twisted his ankle in SRH’s very first match of IPL 2020 and was later ruled out of the entire season. The franchise had replaced him with West Indies Test skipper Jason Holder who performed well with both bat and ball.

The report further added that Sunrisers Hyderabad has already roped in a replacement for Mitchell Marsh. The 2016 IPL winners have decided to rope in a prominent England player who did well in the just-concluded T20I series against India. The player might be Jason Roy, who went unsold in the auction earlier this year and impressed everyone with his performance against India.

The hard-hitting opening batsman finished the T20I series as the fourth-highest run-scorer. He also scored a fifty in the subsequent ODI series. Jason Roy has previously played for Delhi Capitals in the IPL but could not deliver for the team as per expectation. Meanwhile, the upcoming fourteenth season of the IPL is going to commence on April 9. Mumbai Indians will be playing against Royal Challengers Bangalore in the first match of the season on April 9. On the other end, Sunrisers Hyderabad will open their IPL campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11.
