IPL 2021: Rassie van der Dussen joins RR

South African cricketer Rassie van der Dussen will represent RR in IPL 2021. The 32-year-old will replace Ben Stokes for the rest of the season. Rassie is currently isolated, as part of a compulsory 7-day quarantine. As of now, RR has only 4 foreign players in their squad. Just like Ben Stokes, Jofra Archer pulled out of IPL 2021 due to an injury. Andrew Tye and Liam Livingstone also left IPL 2021 midway due to personal reasons. Rassie’s addition to the RR side will certainly improve the current situation, with RR in shortage of overseas players. The inaugural IPL champions only have 4 overseas players as of now. They are Chris Morris, David Miller, Jos Buttler, and Mustafizur Rahman.

Rassie van der Dussen’s record in T20 cricket is remarkable

Rassie has quite a remarkable record, especially in the T20 format. The 32-year-old has played 20 T20I matches for the South African national team. In 20 T20Is, Rassie amassed an impressive 628 runs with a terrific batting average of 41.87. Moreover, his strike rate of 138.63 speaks volumes about his explosive batting ability. This will be Rassie van der Dussen’s 1st season in the IPL. The 32-year-old will be coming into IPL 2021 after a superb outing in the limited-overs series against Pakistan. Rassie amassed 86 runs in 2 T20I matches against Pakistan recently. In the 2 ODIS against Pakistan, Rassie van der Dussen amassed 183 runs in total. The South African cricketer notched a career-best 123 in the ODI series against Pakistan. The South African has also participated in several T20 Leagues in the world. Hence, he will certainly add a lot of experience to the RR side. In his T20 career, Rassie has 3824 runs to his name in total. The Pretorian will certainly look to add to this T20 tally in the IPL this year.

The inaugural IPL champions have struggled to find form in IPL 2021. Currently, RR is 7th in the IPL 2021 points table. RR skipper Sanju Samson needs his players to produce some match-winning performances soon. If the RR side fails to win its upcoming matches, they might fail to qualify for the IPL playoffs.
