Former Indian batsman Sunil Gavaskar has named Mahendra Singh Dhoni as the captain of his all-time IPL XI. The veteran picked his team ahead of the forthcoming IPL 2021 that gets underway on Friday. Ahead of the mega tournament, many cricket experts of the game have revealed their analysis on franchises who will reach the playoffs. Following the trend, Sunil Gavaskar has selected his all-time IPL XI featuring some of the best players. This includes cricketers who have entertained fans with their top-class performances over the years.

Talking about the opening combination, Gavaskar went with MI skipper Rohit Sharma and Punjab Kings (PBKS) batsman Chris Gayle. Both the cricketers have been brilliant in the top order. They have smashed plenty of runs, especially in the powerplay overs. When it comes to the middle-order, the legendary batsman selected David Warner, Virat Kohli, AB de Villiers, Suresh Raina and CSK captain MS Dhoni.

Surprisingly, all the five mentioned star cricketers are on the list of top-10 run-getters in the history of the IPL. While Kohli, Raina and Warner have secured the first three positions, De Villiers is at the sixth position, followed by MS Dhoni at the seventh spot. Sunil Gavaskar also appointed the Ranchi-born superstar as the skipper and wicketkeeper of his playing XI.

For the bowling unit, the well-known commentator picked two-seamers and as many spinners in his all-time XI. He picked MI’s blue-chip bowler Jasprit Bumrah and SRH’s frontline paceman Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Gavaskar also picked all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and Sunil Narine as spinners in all-time XI.

The tournament is going to commence on 9th April 2021. The inaugural match of the 2021 season of the IPL will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and 5-time IPL champions Mumbai Indians (MI) in the city of Chennai.

The 2021 Indian Premier League will conclude on 30th May 2021. Each IPL team is scheduled to play at four different locations during the league stage. Notably, every IPL game will take place at a neutral venue, with no franchise expected to play in their home ground. Out of the 56 league games, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bengaluru will host ten IPL matches each, whereas Ahmedabad and Delhi will conduct eight games each.
