Mujeeb Ur Rahman

Tom Moody, Sunrisers Hyderabad Director of Cricket, has clarified why the team bought Mujeeb Ur Rahman ahead of IPL 2021. The veteran cricketer expects the Afghanistan spinner to keep everyone on their toes in the forthcoming IPL season. Hyderabad roped in Mujeeb Ur Rahman for INR 1.5 crore during the IPL 2021 Mini-Auction. The 20-year-old has joined fellow Afghanistan stars Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi at the franchise.

The 20-year-old spinner will be playing in his fourth IPL season. Mujeeb had taken IPL 2018 by storm on his way as he claimed 14 wickets in 11 matches at under seven runs an over. In his evolving 17-match IPL career, he has picked up 18 scalps so far. The youngster was bought by Kings XI Punjab in the last season but only got to feature in two matches. Mujeeb's purchase does become a lot more understandable as SRH is going to play a combined nine games in Chennai and Delhi. Considering both the pitches are spin-friendly, this could tempt the 'Orange Army' to play two quality overseas spinners. Sunrisers Hyderabad will begin their IPL 2021 campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 11.

Tom Moody satisfied with SRH’s auction strategy

Sunrisers Hyderabad has just added three cricketers to their team ahead of IPL 2021. Along with Mujeeb Ur Rahman, the franchise acquired the services of Kedar Jadhav and all-rounder J Suchith. Kedar Jadhav is going to add some international pedigree to what was a young, inexperienced Indian middle-order. The Hyderabad-based franchise will hope his presence helps players like Abhishek Sharma, Abdul Samad, and Virat Singh. The arrival of Jagadeesha Suchith in the team adds another option down the order, provided they want a left-arm spinner. Speaking on SRH's auction strategy, Tom Moody was satisfied with the team's new players. Tom Moody was the head coach of Sunrisers Hyderabad until 2019 and now accepts the position of Director of Cricket. The former admitted that he is happy to be back in a new role and he looks forward to providing support to Trevor Bayliss' backroom staff.
