Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier have tested positive for Covid-19. This has further led to the postponement of Monday's match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Ahmedabad. Both the cricketers have been isolated, and they are currently under medical supervision. The positive test results in their camp have prompted the franchise to move to daily rounds of testing to identify any other cases and treat them at the earliest.

Although Varun has remained an integral part of the KKR line-up in this season, Sandeep Warrier is yet to feature in a game. The entire Kolkata team and the support staff have gone into isolation in their respective team hotel. Notably, Kolkata Knight Riders had suffered a Covid scare even before the tournament began. Opening batsman Nitish Rana had contracted the virus. IPL 2021 is being held in bio-bubbles across six cities which include Mumbai, Chennai, Ahmedabad, Delhi, Kolkata, and Bengaluru.

KKR are placed seventh on the IPL 2021 points table with 2 wins

According to reports, the KKR players who tested positive did not breach the bio bubble. But they had to go to the hospital to get some checks done, which is probably when they picked up the virus. On the other hand, RCB players were supposed to wear a specially-made blue jersey for this match. This jersey was to honor the frontline workers fighting day and night against the Covid-19 pandemic in India. Now, RCB will have to delay its plans. Virat Kohli and the team had defeated KKR by 38 runs the first time they met this season in Chennai.

On the other hand, a source in PTI notified that since the Delhi Capitals (DC) played against KKR in their last match, all the Delhi players will also have to get themselves tested. Thus, problems remain abundant for KKR, who are already struggling at the seventh position in the IPL 2021 points table. Kolkata Knight Riders have only won 2 wins from 7 games.

Talking about the situation in India, the country has witnessed a slight dip in the daily Covid-19 cases. On Monday, India registered over 3.68 lakh new cases in the past 24 hours, according to the Union health ministry. A total of 3,417 people died because of the virus in the past 24 hours, pushing the overall death toll to 2,18,959. On the other hand, a total of 3,00,732 people recovered from the virus in the past 24 hours. There are still 34,13,642 active Covid-19 cases in India. To date, 15,71,98,207 people have been vaccinated against the Covid-19 infection in the country.
