New Update
IPL 2023

Indian Premier League 2023 concluded with Chennai Super Kings as the fifth-time champion of the tournament. Apart from that, the tournament also witnessed a lot of emerging superstars in both batting and bowling. The list included the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal who made it to the top five in the list of the leading run-scorers of the tournament.

Meanwhile, it was also a season to forget for a couple of senior players and some rising youngsters as well. They couldn’t live up to their stature in T20 cricket and couldn’t have some great outings either with the bat or the ball.

With said that,

Here we’ll have a look at the flop playing XI of the Indian Premier League 2023 including some names which might be astonishing.

Openers – Prithvi Shaw and Rohit Sharma (Captain)

flop XI of the tournament

The star DC opener Prithvi Shaw was in sensational form in domestic cricket before the commencement of the Indian Premier League. But he couldn’t continue that touch of batting in the cash-rich T20 league. Shaw could score only 106 runs in the eighth innings of the eight matches, he played for DC in the tournament; that too with an average of only 13.25 including only one half-century.

Apart from Shaw, the opener in the flop playing XI of IPL 2023 could be the Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma. The five-time IPL champion skipper and star batter would never like to remember the IPL 2023 for his batting in the tournament. He could score only 330 runs in 16 innings of the 16 matches with only one half-century on his credit.

Middle Order – Rahul Tripathi, Harry Brook, and Dinesh Karthik (WK)

flop XI of the tournament

The senior SRH batter Rahul Tripathi was dubbed as one of the most influencing potential talents in Indian cricket after his few quick and good knocks in the series against New Zealand. But unfortunately, he couldn’t perform up to the expectations in the IPL 2023 and could score only 273 runs with a below-par average of 22.75 including a half-century.

Other than Tripathi, the other two names should be Harry Brook and Dinesh Karthik; there were a lot of expectations from these two but they couldn’t translate the chance in a better performance. Brook scored only 190 runs in 11 innings with an average of only 21.11. Whereas the senior wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has added only 140 runs with his bat in the 13 innings of the tournament he appeared in with a very horrific average of 11.67.

All-Rounders – Mooen Ali and Shardul Thakur

flop XI of the tournament

The star England all-rounder Moeen Ali was in action during the Indian Premier League 2023 with the Chennai Super Kings under MS Dhoni’s captaincy. He played in 15 innings and got a chance to bat and ball in 10 and 11 innings respectively. He could score only 124 runs with a very low average of 17.71 having no half-century.

Other than him, the KKR all-rounder Shardul Thakur showed his impact in the match when he scored 68 runs in a match. He had scored only 113 runs in 10 innings of the 11 matches he played. He and Moeen Ali could be a good fit as the all-rounders.

Bowlers – Sunil Narine, Umran Malik, Harshal Patel, and Jofra Archer

flop XI of the tournament

Speaking of the bowling department of this flop playing XI of the entire tournament it might include the star KKR bowler Sunil Narine who couldn’t perform as per management and fans’ expectations. He could scalp only 11 wickets in the 14 innings of the 14 matches, he played for KKR. Other than Narine, the young SRH pacer Umran Malik got a chance to feature in only eight matches by the management in the 2023 edition of the tournament. Bowling in eight innings of these matches, Malik could claim only five wickets to his name. He can be accompanied by Harshal Patel and Jofra Archer who were completely out of form for their respective teams during the recently-concluded Indian Premier League 2023.
