The second half of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is slated to be played in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from 19th September 2021. The tournament will be followed by the most important cricket event of 2021, the T20 World Cup. The showpiece event will be held in October and November this year.
Australia cricket legend Ricky Ponting has opined that participating in the IPL, against top players of the world, will help the Australian players prepare for the T20 World Cup in the best possible way.
"Those guys that haven't played for three or four months now, they need to get back into the groove of playing high-quality cricket against the best players in the world," said Ponting on SEN Radio.
Ponting further added that participating in the IPL is indeed Australia’s best preparation as the conditions in the IPL will be exactly the same the players will face in the T20 World Cup. The former Aussie skipper concluded by stating the IPL is the strongest domestic tournament in the world.
“No doubt it's their best preparation to be in those exact conditions, playing in probably the strongest domestic T20 tournament in the world," concluded Ricky Ponting.
Ricky Ponting is currently the head coach of the Delhi Capitals franchise. At the time of suspension, the Delhi Capitals were occupying the top place in the points table with six wins in eight games. Delhi Capitals’ batsman Shikhar Dhawan is currently the holder of the Orange Cap. The left-hander has plundered 380 runs in 8 innings so far at an average of 54.29.
