Veteran New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor stated that the postponement of IPL 2021 worked in favor of the Indian cricket team. He believes if the tournament had continued, India would have been far less prepared for the WTC final.
New Zealand and India are the world’s top-ranked Test teams according to the ICC Test rankings. The teams would play against each other in the World Test Championship final starting from 18th June. The New Zealand team would also play a two-test series against England ahead of the final. The Indian team on the other hand has to settle for nets practice and intrasquad matches.
Ross Taylor thinks that there could not be better prepared for them than the two test matches against England. But at the end of the day, it is a neutral venue for both the team. The suspension of IPL is going to give the Indian team enough time to get more conditioned. The bowlers of Team India would get more accommodated with the pitch and conditions.
In the first season of WTC, India has won the maximum matches which are 12. India is leading the points table with 72.2 points. New Zealand on the other hand has won 7 matches and has 70 points in second place.
The two teams played against each other just once in the two-year-long tournament of WTC. New Zealand had beat India 2-0 at home. It was a swing conducive pitch. The ICC would soon announce the pitch and match conditions in Southampton.
India has been the number one Test team in the world for a long time: Ross Taylor
The veteran player is not taking his competitors lightly. He pointed out India’s past success in England and their domination in Test rankings. He believes there can be no better schedule for the WTC final than this. The bowlers of both teams would take complete advantage of the conditions now.
This would be Ross Taylor’s seventh tour of England. He would also be one of the pillars for New Zealand along with Kane Williamson in the batting line-up.
