English coach Graham Thorpe credited Sam Curran's experience of playing the IPL for the rise in his abilities as an international cricketer. He highlighted how Curran had to overcome tough situations while playing in the IPL. It helped Curran gain some valuable experience at the top level.

In the second ODI against Sri Lanka, Sam Curran picked up the first five-wicket haul of his international career. He helped England win the game by 8 wickets. He picked up 5 wickets for 48 runs in 10 overs. It sealed England’s series win against Sri Lanka in the three-match series.

In a post-match conference, Thorpe praised Curran for his performance during the series. He opined that Curran's experience of playing the Indian T20 league improved his form. He has shown the ability to compete in every environment and perform for the team. But playing in IPL has put him in high-pressure situations which pushed him to perform. It also opened up his hitting ability with the bat.

In IPL, his hitting ability with the bat reached a new level and made him more confident. Bowling in high-pressure situations in IPL also challenged him. It made him better at technique and maintain his calm during intense situations. Curran gained good experiences during his time in the Indian T20 league.
