Indian Premier League

The Indian Premier League has left no stone unturned to ensure the safety of everyone amidst the pandemic. It has released a detailed list of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and protocols. These franchises have to abide by the norms strictly. The BCCI says that IPL 2020 will begin in the UAE for the first time this year. Moreover, it will be a 53-day tournament. The list includes all the guidelines which the teams need to follow everywhere. While training or traveling or any other activity, everyone has to abide by the rules-the the dos and the don'ts.

Testing and quarantine procedures

The teams have to conduct the tests twice on their members before boarding the flights to UAE. Two consecutive COVID tests will have a gap of 24 hours between them. Given that both the tests turn out negative, they would continue with their journey. A positive case would have to undergo quarantine for two weeks as per the directions of the Government of India.

After reaching the UAE, the members will go through another testing at the airport premises. A compulsory quarantine will follow for a week in the hotel, with tests on the 1st, 3rd, and 6th days. With everything ensured, the teams will commence practicing. Further teats will follow on the 5th day of every week throughout the entire length of the competition.

A bio-secure bubble

A Bio-secure bubble will limit the movement of everyone involved. No one can step out of it. Team members are to avoid close contact and maintain social distancing norms. Players have to wear masks when they are roaming outdoors. Everyone has to stay confined and avoid unrequired movement. In case of any clinical visit, players and other staff should not come in contact with others as much as possible.

Lodging guidelines

All the teams need to book separate hotels for their stay, if possible, exclusively. Otherwise, they need to create for themselves a distinct wing, to avoid contact with outsiders.

COVID positive during the competition

In case of any positive case emerging during the tournament, the infected person will get isolated. The isolation will take place outside the bubble but inside the same hotel. The room where the affected person will stay will be a sanitized one.
