Five-time IPL winners Mumbai Indians' decision to replace Rohit Sharma as their captain still doesn't seem to fit with some. After the decision was made in December last year, the fans created a furor. Now, in an interview, team head coach, Mark Boucher, who is also part of the MI Cape Town's coaching staff, explained why the five-time winners had to make such a decision.

At the time of writing, the video seems to have been taken down from Instagram. Meanwhile, replying to the video, Ritika wrote, “So many things wrong with this...”

Replacing Rohit Sharma as captain is purely a cricketing decision: Mark Boucher

Talking about the decision, the former South Africa wicketkeeper said that replacing Sharma with Pandya as captain was purely a cricketing decision. The former stumper added that it's a transition phase.

"I think it was purely a cricketing decision. We saw the window period to get Hardik back as a player. For me it's a transition phase. A lot of people don't understand in India, people get quite emotional, but you know you take the emotions away from it.

Boucher further added that it is best to bring out the best in Sharma as he will play as a player. For the first time after 2012, the India skipper won't lead the former IPL champions.

“I think it's just more of a cricketing decision that was made, and I do think it is going to bring the best out of Rohit as a person as a player. Just let him go out and enjoy and score some good runs," Boucher said earlier on Smash Sports podcast.

"He is a Mumbai Indians boy. He went to other franchise, won the title in first year, ended up runner-up in his second year. So there's obviously some very good leadership skills as well," Boucher added.
