General Elections in India to have a say in IPL 2024 schedule and dates

The player auction of the IPL 2024 will take place in Dubai on December 19. For the first time in the history of the tournament, the auction will take place outside India. However, the tournament has seen it being moved out of India entirely (2009), partly played outside of India (2014), and being played in India despite the general elections (2019).

As the nation is moving towards the end of the term of the Government of India, the people will vote for the next elections for the govt that will run the country from 2024 to 2029. Next year, the Asian country will see the election from probably March to May. During that time, the 17th season of the cash-rich league will be played.

In 2009, the tournament was played in South Africa as India had general elections and the then-IPL commissioner Lalit Modi was in favor of taking the tournament outside of India. Five years later, the tournament was partially played in the United Arab Emirates during the elections. After the voting phase ended across the country, the rest of the tournament was played in India.

Indian Cricket Board would need to have an eye on T20 World Cup 2024

Apart from the elections, another challenger for the Indian Board will be the T20 World Cup 2024. The tournament will be played from June 4 to June 30 next year with 20 teams competing for the title. With the World Test Championship 2023 final and the IPL 2023 played between a small gap, it was criticized after the Men In Blue lost the final by more than 200 runs.

With India reaching the final of the ODI World Cup 2023 at home, the board would like to ensure that the players get enough rest between the IPL and T20 World Cup 2024 so that they do well in the world event. Also, the tournament will be played in the West Indies and USA, during the peak summers
