In a recent piece of news, Lucknow Super Giants have made some major changes in their pace bowling department for the upcoming Indian Premier League 2024. Notably, LSG faced a big blow after learning about the unavailability of the star England pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the tournament.

In the same line of events, the management announced the replacement of the England speedster; LSG think tank named the young and emerging pace bowling sensation from West Indies, Shamar Joseph as a replacement for Mark Wood in the 17th edition of the Indian Premier League 2024.

“Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) named Shamar Joseph as a replacement for pacer Mark Wood for the upcoming edition of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024,” reads an official media release from IPL.

“Joseph will join LSG for INR 3 Crore. The speedster was recently at the forefront during West Indies’ Test win at the Gabba. He picked 7 wickets in the 2nd innings to script a historic win in Australia for West Indies. This will be Joseph's first stint in the IPL,” the statement adds further.

Notably, it was only Shamar Joseph who played a vital role in bringing glory to the West Indies. On the back of the youngster’s heroic and remarkable bowling performance in the second Test at Gabba, West Indies beat Australia in Australia in a Test match after a long wait of 27 years since 1997.

He won the ‘Player of the Match award for his sensational bowling performance and also ended as the leading wicket-taker in the two-match Test series, with two five-wicket hauls. Now, LSG’s bowling attack will be strengthened by including Shamar Joseph in the pace department. However, Joseph himself had made a statement that he will always prefer Test cricket over franchise cricket.
