Dinesh Karthik and Rishabh Pant have both been in the eyes of the selectors for quite some time now. The selectors are facing a keeper conundrum. Dinesh Karthik was a part of the team in the last India-Pakistan fixture and was the preferred keeping option ahead of Rishabh Pant.
But for the ongoing game against Pakistan, Dinesh Karthik has been dropped without getting a chance to properly prove himself. It has been understood that India needed the left-handed pyrotechnics of Rishabh Pant because of the unavailability of Ravindra Jadeja.
They had to get another left-handed option in the middle and that is why the team management went with Pant. This shows that with Jadeja unavailable, Hardik Pandya will take the finisher's slot. And because India needed more power in the middle they went with Pant.
Rishabh Pant gives the unorthodox strokes and can turn the game on its head with his ability and power. So this is why the team and coaching staff have opted for Pant ahead of Karthik.
When Rishabh Pant did not play the last game, he got a lot of support from former cricketing pundits like Ricky Ponting, Gautam Gambhir and Saba Karim.
Dinesh Karthik's finishing skills in the Indian T20 League with the Bangalore side brought him back into the limelight and gave an India call up again for Karthik. The selectors had a selection call to make and seemed to have sided with the man from Delhi at present. The only mistake from the selectors and team is that Dinesh Karthik was not given a chance to prove himself and was benched pretty much straightaway.
Twitter was on fire because of this, and we got a lot of reactions, let us take a look at them here:
@ImRo45 @BCCI how do you keep a player like @DineshKarthik out of this match?

Why are people crying about Samson getting dropped? How many wrongs can one man fix? We have brought Dinesh Karthik back, a player who was unfairly treated under the last reign. Dropping him is one of the stupidest decisions of all time.
We will make Samson happy too.

India has made a big blunder!! They have dropped a specialist batter Dinesh Karthik against quality express fast bowling of Pakistan. Perhaps India is more focused and scared of strong batting lineup of Pakistan for which India added a bowling option Deepak Hooda. #INDvPAK

Pretty harsh on Dinesh Karthik but with Ravindra Jadeja missing out and no Axar Patel in the XI, India had to go with Rishabh Pant as the left-handed batter in the middle overs. Also, love Ravi Bishnoi's inclusion. #INDvPAK #AsiaCup2022

I don't like this decision of benching Dinesh Karthik. Necessary to play him now that Jadeja is out. As I keep saying, India need to make the changes at the top of the order, not in the middle-order. #INDvPAK

Okay. So #dineshkarthik were preferred over Rishabh Pant in the first match against Pakistan. He faced just one delivery in the last two matches. Then he suddenly gets dropped. And that’s how we are trying to won a World Cup? #AsiaCupT20 #INDvsPAK

Dinesh Karthik was preferred over Pant in the 1st game and now after facing a total of 1 delivery across 2 games, he gets dropped. Lack of continuity in selection still exists. #INDvsPAK #AsiaCup2022

Rishabh Pant in for Dinesh Karthik - interesting change given who they chose at the start of the tournament #INDvsPAK #AsiaCup2022

Dropping Dinesh Karthik without giving any opportunity and playing Pant is the kind of logic why we aren't winning big tournaments.#INDvsPAK
