After having given a scare in the T20I series against Sri Lanka, the Men in Blue were on their toes from the word get-go in the ODI series. The Rohit Sharma-led side won the first match by a huge margin and went into the second in hopes of wrapping up the series altogether. After 80 overs of the game, that is what they managed to accomplish.

Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka decided to bat first at the Eden Gardens in hopes of putting a good total in front of the hosts. The visitors however failed massively as they could only muster 215 runs in 39.4 overs.

Sri Lanka openers Avishka Fernando and debutant Nuwanidu Fernando started the batting well as they quickly got to 29 before Avishka was cleaned up by Mohammed Siraj. Nuwanidu however continued his great batting alongside new batter Kusal Mendis (34). The debutant made 50 off 63 and was unfortunately run out due to a bad call.

From then on, all of Sri Lanka's batters failed to get going and the whole team faltered at just 215. The in-form batter Shanaka also failed to get going as he was cleaned bowled by Kuldeep Yadav. Siraj and Yadav took 3 wickets each and gave away no leeway to Sri Lanka batters.

Coming onto chasing the total, India also began in good fashion as both Shubman Gill (17) and Rohit Sharma (21) came out firing. They however couldn’t emulate their form from the first match as both got out in quick succession.

Virat Kohli who has hit back-to-back centuries in his last two ODI matches failed to make a hattrick of centuries after getting out at just 4 runs. Shreyas Iyer kept the scoreboard going with his 28 off 33, while Hardik Pandya also helped the team with his 36 off 53.

It was however KL Rahul who got the team across the finish line with 64 off 103. In the end, India won by 4 wickets and as a result of it, the series by 2-0.
