The highly anticipated clash between India and Pakistan finally kicked off at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Pallekele during the Asia Cup 2023 on Saturday, September 2nd. Indian skipper Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to set the target by batting first. Team India opted for four-seam bowlers but notably excluded the prominent fast bowler, Mohammed Shami, from the starting lineup.
Both the Indian openers started cautiously and were looking to see off the opening spells from both the opening Pakistani newball bowlers. As both the openers were looking cautiously and the nerves seemed settled the sudden rain interrupted the play. As soon as the play resumed the Indian fans were shocked by the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, who played down the wrong line and was bowled off the bowling of Shaheen Afridi for just 11 runs.
After Rohit’s dismissal, the fans were expecting Virat Kohli to score big runs as he often does against Pakistan, but after a beautiful cover drive off Naseem Shah, the legendary Indian batter was played on off the bowling of Afridi at a score of 4 runs. This was something that all the cricket fans as well as experts were talking about at the start of the match. The opening spell from Shaheen Afridi is something that the Indian top-order batters should always be wary of.
Let us look at how Fans have reacted to this dismissal of the Indian batters;

Shreyas Iyer once again getting out to short ball trap
It is no hidden fact that over the years Shreyas Iyer has fallen prey to short-ball bowling. Despite looking in good touch in his short stay at the wicket, Iyer finally fell to the short ball bowling from Haris Rauf in the tenth over and was once again exposed to his old weakness of playing against short-pitch bowling.
The 28-year batter was caught at mid-wicket by a terrific reflex catch from Fakhar Zaman leaving India in all sorts of trouble at 48/3. With a pitch that has looked bowling-friendly till now, the Indian team would be looking at a score of above 250 at least to remain in the contest.
