BCCI and Adidas, the major global sports goods firm, have signed a pact. Starting in the next month, the India Cricket Team's uniforms will be sponsored by the global sportswear brand adidas. Rohit Sharma and the rest of the team will wear Adidas uniforms during the Test Championship Final 2023, which gets underway on June 7 at Kennington Oval in London.
Killer Jeans was currently the Team India's sponsor after purchasing the jersey branding rights from MPL Sports. However, BCCI has now teamed up to collaborate with a renowned MNC with a sports-related connection. Nike was the final large sports brand to support India's national colours from 2016 and 2020. However, MPL Sports (Mobile Premier League) invested Rs 370 Crore to sponsor India's jersey in 2020.
The Mumbai Indians along with the England Cricket Team were originally sponsored by Adidas. Rohit Sharma, Kuldeep Yadav, as well as Rishabh Pant, three members of the current India team, are sponsored by the German juggernaut adidas. However, alongside the India Cricket Team, Adidas will re-enter the market for apparel for national cricket teams. Adidas no longer sponsors England but alternatively, it now only sponsors Surrey, South East Stars, and Nottinghamshire.
What did the Indian Cricket Board officials say about the new sponsor?
Jay Shah, the honorary secretary of the Indian Cricket Board, announced the new jersey sponsor for Team India on Monday. Adidas has been named as the Indian Cricket Team's uniform sponsor in a partnership with the BCCI.
Jay Shah took to twitter to announce this new collaboration and also in a statement given by the Board to the public, he said that, “We are committed to helping grow the game of cricket and could not be more excited to partner with one of the world’s leading sportswear brands, adidas, in this journey. With its rich historical legacy in sports, world-class products, and strong global reach, Adidas will play an important role in driving the performance and future success of different categories of Indian cricket.”
