Former England skipper Naseer Hussain has come up with an ‘out of the box’ advice for the hosts ahead of the Lord’s Test of the ongoing Ashes 2023 against Australia. Notably, the hosts England might face an injury concern as the veteran all-rounder Moeen Ali could miss the Lord’s Test due to the injury that he sustained recently.

Meanwhile, Hussain has come up with a piece of advice for the England management to go with the four pacers and one spinner in the Lord’s Test. Surprisingly, the name of the spinner suggested by Hussain is none other than the former England skipper and the batting great Joe Root.

“If there is one ground you could leave your spinner out and play Root, it would be Lord's - unless it's absolutely baking. It doesn't always turn there in the Test matches, but it can get very flat so you may need your spinner there in a holding role. It's really tricky, you hope Moeen would improve, but I would think about Root and four seamers,” said Naseer Hussain as quoted by India Today.

Here's what Naseer Hussain said further about Joe Root

“The problem in English first-class cricket is of the leading 46 wicket-takers, 44 are seamers - and the two spinners are Simon Harmer at Essex, who can't play for us, and Jack Leach who is injured. Will Jacks obviously came in against Pakistan and got a six-for on his debut. If you're going to go for a second spinner, it has to be someone who is a lot better than Root," he added later.

Notably, England and Australia will lock horns with each other in the second Test of The Ashes 2023 at the Lord’s in London on the 28th of June, Friday.

Currently, both teams are in action in the ongoing first Test of The Ashes 2023 as the game on the fifth day of the match has been delayed due to the rain. Australia now require 174 runs and England need 7 wickets to win the match.
