CSK tasted defeat at the hands of DC in the 2nd match of IPL 2021. CSK’s batting looked to be on point, as they posted a decent total of 188. However, their bowlers were not up to the mark. By the time CSK picked their 1st wicket, the game was already over. CSK lacked a bowler who could make a breakthrough for the team in such conditions. Imran Tahir could have been the ideal option had he started for CSK in that match. Imran Tahir has a ton of experience playing in the IPL. With 384 T20 wickets in total, Tahir could have made the difference for CSK.
Tahir was the purple cap winner in IPL 2019. In 17 games, Tahir scalped an impressive 26 wickets with a staggering economy of 6.69 in IPL 2019. Moreover, for CSK, Tahir has scalped 33 wickets in just 26 wickets. Clearly, Tahir deserves to start for the Men in Yellow. There is a possibility to include Tahir in CSK’s starting XI. However, this will demand an entire revamp in CSK’s starting lineup. In order to keep the team’s balance intact, CSK will have to replace Tahir with an overseas allrounder. In that case, Tahir will have to be swapped with either Dwayne Bravo or Moeen Ali.
What will Imran Tahir add to the CSK side?
Shardul Thakur is known to bowl deliveries at a staggering pace of 140 Kmph. Deepak Chahar and Sam Curran will also add firepower to CSK’s pace bowling lineup. CSK will play their next 4 matches at the Wankhede Stadium at Chennai. Hence, CSK will look to utilize the swing-friendly pitch of Wankhede using their pace bowlers. Dhoni could either roll the ball to Ravindra Jadeja or Moeen Ali, who will help to sustain the run rate. Finally, Dwayne Bravo could be CSK’s 6th bowler who could bowl in the death and help CSK scalp crucial wickets. However, CSK would clearly lack an experienced bowler who could take wickets in tight conditions. This is where Imran Tahir could come in handy.
However, in order for Imran Tahir to start, either Ali or Bravo will have to give way. After Ali’s dismal outing with the ball against Delhi recently, we could see Tahir replace him in the starting lineup. CSK will need to find a solution for this problem if they want to contend for the IPL this year.
